"-D" Option Added for
PS-5000 Series Controller
Outputs Based on Direction of Rotation
Electro
Cam Corp. has added functionality to its resolver-based, PS-5000 Series
controllers, with the addition of the "-D" Option.
Outputs in standard PLµS controllers turn
ON/OFF based on resolver position, regardless of the direction the
resolver is turning. The "-D" Option allows outputs to be set
individually, based on the direction the resolver is rotating. Outputs
can also be set to operate based on increasing position or decreasing
position.
Standard PLµS controllers are primarily
used for continuous machine rotation. Outputs turn ON/OFF based on
machine position in these applications, regardless of the direction the
resolver turns. In applications where machine rotation changes, certain
outputs must turn ON/OFF based on the direction of rotation. With the
new "D" option, PLµS controllers allow individual outputs to be
programmed in any of the following: 1) ON/OFF regardless of direction;
2) ON/OFF only with forward rotation; 3) ON/OFF only with reverse
rotation.
The "-D" Option can easily be turned ON
using the front keypad and display. All output position and direction
setpoint values are simply entered through the numeric keypad. These
setpoints can be adjusted while the machine is running or stopped by
using the increment, decrement, or numeric keys. The keyboard is also
used to synchronize the control’s position and direction to the machine,
eliminating the need to mechanically adjust the resolver’s shaft
position or direction.
Note: The "-D" Option parameters are not
supported in the PLµSNET II upload/download utility. Ask for a special
upload/download utility called "PLµSNET Cloner" for archiving controller
configuration.
Electro Cam Corp. Adds
The PL-1746-CO2/3-R1 to its Family of SLC500 Plug-in Modules
Electro
Cam Corp. has recently announced they have added two new versions to
their family of Resolver based PL-1746 PLµS Plug-in modules for the
Allen-Bradley SLC500 PLC. The new PL-1746-C02-R1 and PL-1746-C03-R1
models provide a lower cost, compact package without losing the
capability of fast response, real-world PLS outputs.
The two new PL-1746 modules (C02/C03)
feature six individually fused, real-world outputs built into the front
panel of the module, eliminating the need for a separate I/O rack. In
addition, eight inputs are also built in to allow the same High Speed
Internal Logic functionality that the C01 model offers. The outputs are
capable of switching 1.5 amps of continuous current in either a Sourcing
configuration on a C02 model or Sinking on a C03.
As on all versions of the PL-1746
modules, the C02 and C03 allow the operator easy access to configuration
and status via the Allen-Bradley backplane or the PS-6400
keypad/display. The four digit LED display on the front of the module
provides the user simple speed, position and troubleshooting feedback.
The PL-1746 is fully capable of operating
in a remote I/O environment through the effective combination of its
on-board high-speed microprocessor, setpoint storage capabilities and
mappable I/O registers. Typical applications include glue gun control,
food processing, packaging and cartoning machines, indexing machines,
assembly machines and more.
Introducing
Specialized Plug-In Module
Electro
Cam Corp. introduces a new model of the popular PL-1746 PLµS
plug-in module especially for applications that do not require high
speed inputs or outputs (i.e. I/O that does not need to be less than the
SLC scan time).
The new model PL-1746-C04 includes many of the advanced features of
Electro Cam's PLµS controllers, such as speed compensation, groups and
modes, programming access, motion ANDing, scale factor and timed
outputs. Using the SLC-500 discrete I/O makes this new module an
economical solution for rotary position applications.
PL-1746 PLµS plug-in modules deliver powerful programmable limit switch
functionality to the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 family of programmable logic
controls. By off-loading much of the ladder logic to the PL-1746,
overall scan time can be greatly improved, resulting in better machine
performance.
Programmable limit switches are microprocessor-based controls that
convert the rotary motion of a shaft into signals suitable for control
of machine events or processes. The SLC-500, using the PL-1746 module,
can be used to control any machine with rotary motion or linear motion
that can be converted to rotary motion. The plug-in module helps
increase machine speed through precision control and accurate
positioning for any part of the process, like those found in packaging,
material handling, materials processing, and many other industries.
New Remote I/O Feature
Added to CE Certified Plug-In Module
The
popular PL-1746 PLµS plug-in module from Electro Cam Corp.
has been improved to include new Remote I/O functionality and mapping.
The enhanced PL-1746 now is fully capable
of operating in a Remote I/O environment. Through the effective
combination of its on-board high-speed microprocessor, setpoint storage
capabilities and mappable I/O registers, the PL-1746 can operate in a
remote SLC rack. PL-1746 outputs can be used to activate standard
Allen-Bradley outputs or high speed Electro Cam outputs. The A-B outputs
would be dependent on the scan time of the SLC. By using either one or
two Electro Cam PS-4108-13-L16 output racks, the PL-1746 can respond to
high speed logic inputs and turn either 16 or 32 outputs on and off at
speeds of 500 µS.
The PL-1746 now includes eight input and
eight output mapping registers, which allow the user to read and write
to and from the module's M0 file by using the module's input and output
files. Exclusive to the PL-1746, these mappable registers allow the
module to function in a remote I/O environment. The I/O mapping feature
also enables the user to access selected information at a higher speed
than through the use of the M0 file.
Two dedicated M0 registers also have been
added to the PL-1746 to provide scalable analog speed output values,
containing a scalable 12-bit value (0-4096) corresponding to speed. This
can be used to activate either specific portions of PLC logic or
standard AB analog outputs.
Finally, the rigorous CE Certification
process recently was completed for the PL-1746, enabling the module to
be marketed in the European Union.
Expanded Line of
Geared Resolvers Eliminates Gear Reducers in Many Position
Sensing/Control Applications
Electro
Cam Corp. has expanded its offering of geared resolvers to include
ratios from 2:1 to 36:1, eliminating the need for external gear reducers
in many applications where outputs are tracked over multiple
revolutions, and significantly increasing resolver input effectiveness.
Coupled with Internal High-Speed Logic technology in Electro Cam Corp.'s
PLµS controllers, the wide range of geared resolvers makes it feasible
to control the majority of machine processes.
Electro Cam geared resolvers have a
specific ratio of resolver input shaft turns to resolver shaft turns.
The gear reduction allows users to convert multiple machine shaft
revolutions into one resolver shaft revolution without adding gear
boxes, pulleys, or sprockets to obtain proper ratios.
The new geared resolvers are ideal for a
variety of applications, including form/fill/seal packaging machines,
cartoners, conveyors, printing, silk screening, lumber processing, metal
grinding, and material handling equipment.
All Electro Cam resolvers feature
heavy-duty dual bearing construction and standard mounting
configurations.

NET FORWARD
ENCODER INTERFACE
Electro Cam
Corp. is pleased to offer this sneak preview of our new
PS-2252-12-TP1 Net Forward Encoder Interface (NFEI). Ideal for
applications requiring perfect alignment, the NFEI eliminates erroneous
encoder pulse counts caused by uncontrolled backward movement, and
counts forward pulses until reverse motion occurs. It then stops
counting pulses (reverse or forward) until encoder position exceeds the
last forward position before reverse.
For example, when a web process stops,
some backward movement will occur. Upon re-start, the process will
overlap a portion of the web, resulting in mis-registration. The NFEI
counts pulses until reverse occurs, then withholds pulses until the
exact point the process stopped, resulting in perfect
registration! If the process stops halfway through a character, the
character will be finished when the process restarts. Scrap is
eliminated and downtime is reduced.
The new NFEI works with standard
quadrature encoders.
Applications include:
- Web Processes
- Printing
- Bar Codes
- Conveyors
- De-Reelers
- Wire & Cable Cut-Off
- Labeling & Packaging Equipment
- Any application requiring absolute
registration
Electro Cam
Corp. Introduces a Plug-in Module
for the Allen-Bradley SLC-500™
The new
PL-1746 PLµS plug-in module delivers powerful programmable limit
switch functionality to the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 family of programmable
logic controls, eliminating high-speed counter cards.
Programmable limit switches are
microprocessor-based controls that convert the rotary motion of a shaft
into signals suitable for control of machine events or processes. The
SLC-500, using the PL-1746 module, can be used to control any machine
with rotary motion or linear motion that changes to rotary motion. The
plug-in module helps increase machine speed through precision control of
repetitive tasks, particularly in applications that require extremely
fast output response (less than 1 msec), and accurate positioning for
any part of the process, like those found in packaging, material
handling, materials processing, food processing and many other
industries.
Multiple program capability, separate
from the SLC-500's memory, stores configurations in non-volatile memory
for quick changeovers and easy set-ups. These programs can be accessed
quickly using an optional remote keypad.
The plug-in module shares absolute
position information from a resolver with 12-bit resolution, through the
backplane of the SLC-500. The module can also function in a remote I/O
rack. The PL-1746 allows the SLC-500 unprecedented control over
repetitive tasks, with tunable speed compensation, and tunable analog
output. The Electro Cam Corp. PL-1746 plug-in module has UL recognition
and is CE certified.
